‘BATTLEGROUND 3
Report by Lance Manyer 'Battleground 2' promoter

Saturday March the 14th saw British championship kickboxing at Glascote social club in Tamworth, in the Midlands.
It was a sold out event & the atmosphere was electric, the under 16yrs fights were on first with light continuous ringsports, after a couple excellent opening fights the battle was on for the first title fight of the evening, it was for the 32.5kg British title . The fight was contested over 3 x 1.5 min rounds between Patrick Doherty from T.K.A & Charlie Pearson N.M.A, it was a cracking fight between the 8yr olds, with both fighters giving their all, the 1st round seemed even & every thing was still to fight for, in the 2nd round Pearson put the pressure on Doherty with some excellent punch/kick combinations, in the last round he consolidated his lead with a good work rate as he keep coming forward & was the deserved winner with a unanimous decision.
There were some cracking well matched fights through the night, with wins for Luis Cardin TKA, Jay Turner TKA, Ellis Blake TKA, Shannon Graham TKA, Connor Buckland BCCA, Jordan Frost NMA & Danny Swanwick NMA.
The next title was for the WKA English ringsports 52kg title, between Jake Slater from TKA & Danny Hickman from Solihul Combat Sports, this fight was ‘toe 2 toe’ from first to last bell with both fighters showing excellent skill & fitness with both fighter’s willing to go into the ‘trenches’ for a ‘tear up’ at the end of the fight nobody could tell who was the winner it was that close, the decision went to the Solihul lad Danny Hickman .

Steve Davies was was up next for TKA (Tamworth) taking on Elliot Butler from JH.Kickboxing (Nottingham) this was a cracking fight with a contrast of styles & also age as Davies was roughly 15 years old than Butler, every body was expecting the younger man to be fitter & faster but both men were in good condition, the difference was Davies superior skill with combination punching & excellent follow up kicking. After 3 x 2 minute rounds Steve Davies’ (TKA) hand was raised by the referee.

Next in to the ring was the Superbly conditioned Rich Conisbee ( 85kg of completely ‘ripped’ muscle) from Team Peers (Brackley) to take on TKA local boy ‘Tall Paul’ Fullylove, everybody thought Fullylove did’nt have a chance as he was giving away weight & was slighter in build. This was one of the best fights of the night with Fullylove showing some excellent kickboxing skill & fitness as he took the fight to Conisbee, although he never looked like knocking Conisbee out he dominated him with work rate & ‘shots’ landed. Conisbee is a ‘heavy hiiter’ & when his shot’s landed you could see the effect on Fullylove . Although Fullylove was ahead on the judges scorecards he was caught with a big straight righ hand that shook him, Conisbee pounced on to Fullylove landing 5 or 6 heavy unanswered shots & the ref stepped in to stop the fight & declared Conisbee the winner.
There was a WKA Junior British title at 52/55kg up for grabs, contested between Jai Meyrick ( bai lang ) & Regis Sugden (Newark martial arts ) over 5 x 1.5 minute rounds. This was by far the most technically skilful fight of the night, with some excellent action & classey technique, both lads could ‘tear it up’ as well being thinking fighter’s, after 5 rounds of action it went to the score cards & it was Sugden who took the belt home.
The main event was for the WKA 72kg British Amatuer title, between Adam Myra ( b.c.c.a ) & Ciaran Mangan (w.b.b.a). This was 5 x 2 minute rounds of all out ‘mayhem’ from start to finish the two fighters went war & it was one of those fights that either guy could have won , but neither was able to finish the other off when they had them in trouble. Both fighters were fit & in good condition but it was Mangen who started to put the stained pressure on & 5 hard rounds of kick boxing was Mangen who lifted the title.

Look out for more WKA Championship kickboxing at ‘Battleground 4’ in October 2009.

‘BATTLEGROUND 2
Report by Lance Manyer 'Battleground 2' promoter

Glascote social club once again played host to the 'Battleground' Full Contact Fight Night & another very entertaining sold out show.
With three WKA Titles up for grabs the atmosphere was electric. The night kicked off with the under 16yrs light continuous, 7 fights of non stop action with excellent skill on display im sure some of these kids will be fighting for Titles in the future. There was one British Title on the fight card for the under 16's, the WKA 36kg ring sports between Ellis Blake of TKA & Shane Mc Cure of Black Cobra, unfortunetley Mc Cure sustained a broken nose in training & was unable to fight this resulted in Blake being awarded the title. This not the way he would have wanted the belt & will be defending it in april 2009 at the next Battleground.
The full contact got under way with some excellent first time to the ring fights, with wins for Brian Allen & 'Mr' Jim Williams of TKA, win's also for Rich Conisbee & Andy Newman of Team Peers ( from Brackley ) the first title fight was for the WKA midland ameatur welter weight, between Adam Madeley (wsbb) & Adam Myra (bcca) over 5 x 1.5 min rounds, both fighters started fast & strong giving the crowd plenty to cheer about, with honours even after the first round the fight was set for a 'tear up'. As the rounds went by is was Myra the black country fighter who pulled away & with more left ' in the tank' landed with some excellent punch & kick combinations, & took the WKA midland title.
The top of the bill contest was between Callum Thompson from Lincoln (ufbda) & Johnny Stewart from Ashby (Motiv8 gym),fighting for the WKA British Light Heavy weight (83 kg) ameatur title, over 5 x 2 minute rounds. Stewart who is the ISKA British cruiser weight champion was the favourite going into the fight, but it was the Lincoln fighter who got off to the better start with solid non stop pressure using his trademark 'superman' punch to great effect. Stewart who is a very durable & talented fighter with a 'never say die' attitude seemed to be allowing Thompson to the work in the hope he would burn himself out & then knock him out late on, Thompson however never looked like running out of gas & finished the fight as strong as he started notching up an excellent points win on the score cards.

The next Battleground will be in April 2009, with more WKA Championship Kickboxing.

‘BATTLEGROUND’
Report by Lance Manyer 'Battleground' promoter

Terminator' Stacey Hawkins Wins WKA Full Contact Title

Stacey Hawkins from Tamworth Kickboxing Academy won the WKA British Full Contact Junior Title (under 16 years) on the 'Battleground' Fight night held in Tamworth In the Midlands

Hawkins who has won many major title's including WAKO European Champion light continuous, WAKO British champion x2 L.C, WUMA World Champion semi contact, WUMA World silver L.C, WKA British Champion x 2 L.C, WKA British S.C and CIMAC British Champion x2 L.C

Hawkins started to cross over from semi contact and light continuous on the mats into light continuous in the ring but was disqualified for excessive power on several occasions, so the chance to fight for the WKA  60kg British title was just what 'The Terminator' needed

The fight was scheduled for 5 x 1.5 minute rounds against Abigail Dawson who gamely stepped in as a late replacement. Hawkins was on fire right from the bell and landed some excellent head kicks but it was the power of her devastating body punching that was too much for Dawson to take and the referee stepped in to stop her taking any more punishment and the fight was stopped in the first round

Hawkins achievements are even remarkable and she has had a back condition for the last 2 years called spondyhlisthesis which has caused her a lot of pain and discomfort. She has just had a four hour bone graft operation to correct the condition. She is out of action for months in a body cast but hopefully she'll be as good and new and back on the circuit as soon as possible

'Battleground 2' is on the 13th September 2008
